I love flowers.  I don’t know much about them, I rarely recognize species without help, but I do like to look at them.

I plant a few each spring, but haven’t got a clue as to which ones will do well , I just pick them because they look pretty in the nursery.

That was definitely the case when we purchased these rhododendron bushes a few years ago.  I thought the purple flowers would be a nice contrast to the row of green bushes in the front of our house.

Unfortunately, I didn’t ask about how much sun they needed, and I planted them too close to the house, so most years, they don’t look very pretty.  But this year, surprisingly after the cold bleak winter, there is a splash of purple on my front yard as the bushes bloom.

Who knew that a cold winter was what they needed to look their best?
