In a little church in Santa Fe is a most unusual staircase. Constructed in the 1870’s the stairway is a marvel, that even today architects, engineers and master craftsmen can’t explain.
What makes it unusual is that the staircase makes over two complete 360-degree turns, stands 20’ tall and has no center support.
Adding to the mystery I are the Risers of the 33 steps which are all of the same height. Made of an apparently extinct wood species, it was constructed with only square wooden pegs without glue or nails.
