<p>With this local focus  in mind, I thought I would  share just a few of my favorite local restaurants.  These are places I would miss if they were gone. .  I hope you will consider voting with your dollars this holiday season, paying them a visit, and helping to build a strong local economy.</p>
<p>No links to websites sorry, but more importantly I have listed address so you can check them out yourself.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Ocean World on 86th Street and Ditch. Some of the best and most reasonably priced sushi in town. The food is so good it is easy to overlook the mediocre service. It is usually busy, but not overcrowded at lunch time, 1/2 prices specials on Sunday, and always a long wait on Friday night.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">LaPeidad 6524 Cornell Ave &#8211; Great, authentic TexMex. Fast friendly service, good food, reasonable price. Nice outdoor dining when the weather permits. When I need a TexMex Fix this is my favorite.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Kona Jack &#8211; Meridian and 96th Street &#8211; Not to be confused with the Kona Grill chain in Clay Terrace. This Indy tradition has a wonderful, diverse fish menu, and even sells fresh fish for you to take home and prepare yourself. Sharing a kitchen with Daddy Jacks, you can often convince your waitress to serve something off the menu from the other side.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Santorini Greek Kitchen &#8211; 1417 Prospect Street, in Fountain Square &#8211; Well worth the trip to Fountain Square for the huge portions, home-style Greek food, and great service. It is also the only place in the city that makes Eggplant parmesan the way I like it &#8211; I think you will too.</p>

<p>Today, I want to share Seth Godin&#8217;s Thanksgiving post. He says:</p>
<blockquote><p>Why be generous?  Why go out of your way for someone who can&#8217;t possibly pay you back?  I hope the answer is obvious. It is to me. The benefit is in the fact that they can&#8217;t pay you back. The opportunity to instruct or assist when you can gain nothing in return is priceless. It creates meaning and momentum and structure.</p></blockquote>
<p>And so, as you begin the last month of the year, ask yourself.. Am I generous? Am I a RAINMAKER!</p>

<p>At first I was a bit intimidated &#8211; 50 blogs did I really read that many?   But I figured what they heck it would be fun to see how many I came up with.</p>

I say that on a regular basis &#8211; I&#8217;m too old, I&#8217;m a girl, and I don&#8217;t have a technical background.  But somewhere along the way, with the help of some very good teachers ( thanks <a href="http://www.pinpointav.com">Dave Anderson</a>, <a href="http://www.douglaskarr.com/">Doug Karr, </a><a href="http://www.evereffect.com/">Jim Brown</a> and <a href="http://www.kylelacy.com">Kyle Lacy</a>) I have become very comfortable with blogging and social media in general.</p>
<p>So comfortable, I have started to talk like a techy.  And until today,  I thought that was really cool.  Then I read a very smart post by <a href="http://www.louisgray.com/live/2008/11/its-not-about-technology-stupid.html">Louis Gray </a>and I remembered what it was like not to be on the outside, looking in, thinking this was all a huge waste of time.   He said simply:</p>
<blockquote><p>What we need to do is help translate these honestly geeky tools into something that makes sense to the mainstream. Instead of talking about how many people you&#8217;re following, APIs and how you use <a href="http://www.tweetdeck.com/beta/" target="new">TweetDeck</a> to follow specific terms in Twitter, start by explaining that the service is essentially text messaging that gets recorded and can be sent to many people at once.</p></blockquote>
<p>I will take it a bit further.   Why should small business owners use Twitter?  Two reasons:</p>
<ol>
<li>If you are blogging, this is a nice extension.  A good way to put your information out in front of a wider audience.   Sometimes it is good to go where the people are instead of always trying to bring the traffic to you.</li>
<li>As you get better at it, you can learn so much by following the right people.  Who are they?   For everyone, the &#8220;right people&#8221; are different.  It takes time to find the balance.  Unlike many Twitter users I don&#8217;t follow thousands of people, but I am always adding new folks to the mix.</li>
</ol>
<p>My advice to other non-techies, log on, give it a try, and to the tech folks I will leave with one more quote from Louis&#8217; article:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Look, tech dork, software doesn&#8217;t solve problems, humans solve problems.&#8221;</p>

<p>This is a bit of woman&#8217;s humor from my friend Lori  &#8230; enjoy!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Bottle of Wine</strong></p>
<p>A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning; it&#8217;s a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them are hurt . God works in mysterious ways.  After they crawl out of their cars, the man is yelling about women drivers.</p>
<p>The woman says, &#8216;So, you&#8217;re a man. That&#8217;s interesting. I&#8217;m a woman.  Wow, just look at our cars! There&#8217;s nothing left, but we&#8217;re unhurt . This must be a sign from God that we should be friends and live in<br />
peace for the rest of our days&#8217;.</p>
<p>Flattered, the man replies, &#8216;Oh yes, I agree completely, this must be a sign from God! But you&#8217;re still at fault&#8230;women shouldn&#8217;t be allowed to drive.&#8217;</p>
<p>The woman continues, &#8216;And look at this, here&#8217;s another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn&#8217;t break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune.&#8217;</p>
<p>She hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman.  The woman takes the bottle, puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man.</p>
<p>The man asks , &#8216;Aren&#8217;t you having any?&#8217;</p>
<p>The woman replies, &#8216;No. I think I&#8217;ll just wait for the police&#8230;.&#8217;</p>
<p>MORAL OF THE STORY: Women are clever, evil witches&#8230;  Don&#8217;t mess with us.</p>

And rather than pass it on to everyone&#8217;s email box, which i hate to do, i decided to post a portion of it here: Reading comments by Maya Angelou I know that is spirit she is a Rainamker. Here are just a few comments on what she has learned in her Life .</p>
<p>As you read them I think you will agree, she has the soul of a Rainmaker.  She says:</p>

<li>&#8216;I&#8217;ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. &#8216;I&#8217;ve learned that making a &#8216;living&#8217; is not the same thing as &#8216;making a life.</li>
<li>&#8216; &#8216;I&#8217;ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.&#8217; &#8216;</li>
<li>I&#8217;ve learned that you shouldn&#8217;t go through life with a catcher&#8217;s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back!&#8221;</li>

<p>So here is the thought for today &#8211; Be a Rainmaker and before you end you day today do something to MAKE YOUR LIFE : Learn something, give something to someone else, or do something to make someone else feel special.</p>
